Saras mela
SARAS Ajeevika mela began Yesterday on 10th October and will continue till 23rd of October in India Gate lawns and will be formally inaugurated by Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Rural Development Minister on October 12, 2019. This initiative aims to unite the women Self Help Groups (SHGs) under one plan of action and help them to connect with Bulk buyers. Here the women of Self Help Groups will display their products for sale, will get to know about the market demands and choices at the other ends of value chain.
This SARAS Mela is an initiative which was taken up for the first time by Ministry of Rural Development in financial year 1999- 2000. Now this fair is held jointly by Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India.Rural Development Ministry’s marketing arm organises this mela.
This year around 500 SHGs will participate and display their products at SARAS mela. Handlooms, Handicraft, jewellery & home décor and Natural food products are the broad categories under which products will be showcased. There will be some dance performances also by the SHGs and the mela will conclude with a food fest where characteristic food and dishes from all parts of country will be stalled.
