Two 6.8-magnitude earthquakes strike off Solomon Islands in Pacific Ocean

Two strong 6.8 magnitude earthquakes had strike the Solomon Islands in Pacific Ocean on 23 May 2015.
The first quake had hit at a depth of 10 km and the second one hit at a shallow depth just 448 kilometres from the capital Honiara. Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has mentioned that there was no threat of a Pacific-wide tsunami from the tremors caused by this earthquake.
Solomon Islands are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire which is a zone of live tectonic activity known for its frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions
The Islands had faced a worst earthquake of 8.0-magnitude in 2013 and was hit by a tsunami after it, leaving at least 10 people dead and thousands homeless.
