47th International Film Festival starts in Goa
47th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) which is one of Asia’s oldest and India’s biggest begins in Goa. The festival will see the screening of over 300 films including 4 premieres, 6 international premieres, 26 Asian premieres 104 Indian premieres and Oscar-winning entries from nearly 90 countries. The Republic of Korea is the focus country of IFFI 2016. No Pakistani films will be screened at the festival this year.
Veteran singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has been bestowed with Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year and the legendary South Korean film director and writer, Im Kwon Taek, has been conferred with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at IFFI 2016. Polish filmmaker, Andrzej Wajda’s film “After-Image” is the opening film and the South Korean Kim Jee Woon’s “Age of Shadows”, which is also the South Korea’s official entry for the Oscar awards, will be the festival’s closing film. In addition, as a part of Swachh Bharat campaign, 20 award winning short films based on ‘Swachh Bharat’ theme would be showcased in the festival.
IFFI was founded in 1952. It is held annually in the state of Goa since 2004. It is the biggest state-backed film festival and conducted jointly by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals and the Government of Goa.
