47.86 GW of Renewable Energy Installed in the last six years

The Minister of State(independent charge) New and Renewable Energy, Power and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Raj Kumar Singh in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Thursday, 12th December 2019 informed that during the last six years, from March 2014 to October 2019, a total of 47.86 GW of renewable energy capacity has been installed in the country.
The Minister also informed about the initiative taken by the Government to explore new and renewable energy sources, some of the initiatives are waiver of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charge and losses for inter-state sale of solar and wind power for projects to be commissioned up to 2022 December, under the automatic route permitting foreign direct investment (FDI) up to 100 percent, notification of standard bidding guidelines to enable distribution license to procure wind and solar power at competitive rates in cost-effective manner, launching of new schemes such as PM-KUSUM, solar rooftop phase II, etc.
The Government has set a target of installing 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2022 which includes 5 GW from Small Hydro, 10 GW from Biomass, 60 GW from wind and 100 GW from solar energy.
