3rd BRICS Film Festival held in Durban, South Africa
The third edition of BRICS Film Festival was held in Durban, South Africa, along with the International Durban Film Festival (DIFF). The last day of festival was celebrated as India Country Day followed by Awards and Closing Ceremony. The film gala was aimed at celebrating world-class film productions from BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) with the objective of inspiring more collaboration from these nations.
Key Facts
Newton directed by Amit Masurkar won Best Film and Village Rockstars by Rima Das received Best Actress (Bhanita Das) and Special Jury Award. The format of BRICS film festival consisted of screening two feature films from each country in competition category and three feature films in non-competition category. Total of 24 films were screened during duration of the festival.
Note: Newton featuring Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil and Raghubir Yadav in lead roles earlier had won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. It was also India’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at Oscars (90th Academy Awards). Village Rockstars was premiered at 2017 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and it had won Best Feature Film Swarna Kamal award at 65th National Film Awards.
