3 Schemes launched by Jharkhand to increase MNREGA working days
On May 5, 2020, the Jharkhand Government launched three schemes to increase working hours of MNREGA workers. The schemes will help generate more than 25 crore man days and help workers earn more wages.
The Schemes
The schemes were launched by the Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren. The schemes are as follows
- Birsa Harit Gram Yojana
- Nilamber-Pitamber Jal Samridhi Yojana
- Veer Shahid Poto Ho Khel Vikas Yojana
The State Rural Development Department has set target of generating 25 crore man days with an allocated amount of Rs 20,000 crores. The completion of work period under the scheme is three years.
Birsa Harit Gram Yojana
Under the scheme, fruit bearing plantations are to be planted on either side of the roads. This will help the villagers earn an annual income of Rs 50,000 after three years. Meanwhile, during the plantation and growing phase, the MNREGA would support them.
Nilamber-Pitamber Jal Samridhi Yojana
The aim of the scheme is to increase ground water. It intends to create 5 lakh crore litres of ground water reserve. This will help in cultivation of waste lands.
Veer Shahid Poto Ho Khel Vikas Yojana
Under the scheme, playgorunds at panchayat levels are to be constructed to promote sports and reserve jobs under sports quota.
Why MNREGA?
With the migrants returning to their home, the population in the rural areas has exploded. And, so did unemployment among rural labourers. Of the overall migrated population, majority were from unorganized sector. Therefore, the GoI under its Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann yojana increased MNREGA wages from Rs 182 to Rs 202.
The state schemes, therefore, will help in rural development.
