2636 Charging Stations sanctioned under Phase-II of Fame India
The Department of Heavy industries under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises of the Government of India has sanctioned 2636 charging stations under the Phase II of the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) India Scheme in 62 cities across 24 states and union territories of India to further push towards clean mobility across the sector of road transportation in India. Out of 2636, the highest of 317 electric vehicle charging stations have been allotted to Maharashtra followed by 266 in Andhra Pradesh and 256 in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier in 2019, the Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Prakash Javadekar has informed that the government plans to encourage the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to launch new electric vehicles models by installation of at least one charging station in a grid of 4Km X 4Km in selected cities across India, that will also boost the confidence of electric Vehicle users.
To date, 106 proposals for deployment of around 7000 electric vehicle charging stations across the country have been received by the Ministry from public/private entities.
