2024 Army Commanders’ Conference Begins in Gangtok

The Second Army Commanders’ Conference of 2024 began on October 10 in Gangtok, Sikkim. This important meeting brings together senior leaders of the Indian Army to discuss the country’s security situation, address key challenges, and plan strategies for the future.

Structure of the Conference

The conference is divided into two parts:

Phase One: This takes place from October 10-11, 2024, in Gangtok. It includes early discussions and assessments of the security landscape.

Phase Two: Scheduled for October 28-29, 2024, in Delhi, this phase will focus on deeper analysis and refining strategies based on the earlier discussions.

Keynote Address by Defence Minister

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will give a special speech during the Gangtok phase. He will talk about the new security threats India faces and how the Army is planning to respond. During his visit, he will also celebrate Dussehra with the local soldiers, showing the government’s support for the armed forces.

Why Gangtok?

Gangtok was chosen as the venue because it is close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. This makes it an important location for discussing border security and ensuring that the Army is prepared for any regional tensions or challenges.

Focus on National Security

The main focus of the conference is on creating a national security strategy that involves:

Civil-Military Cooperation: Working closely with both military and civilian sectors to address security issues.

DIME Strategy: This includes Diplomatic, Information, Military, and Economic efforts to handle modern threats.

Emphasis on Technology

A key part of the discussions will be about how to use technology effectively. This includes:

  • Developing low-cost technologies for the Army.
  • Adapting to new forms of warfare with creative and alternative strategies.

Improving Military Training

The conference will also focus on:

  • Improving military education and training.
  • Using technology in training programs.
  • Hiring specialists for specific fields to make the Army more efficient.

The leaders will talk about how to improve the way the Army is organized, making processes simpler and reviewing the training of Agniveers (new recruits) across different formations.
