16th GRIHA Summit 2024

The 16th GRIHA Summit commenced in New Delhi, which centres on “Accelerating Climate Action in the Built Environment.” The event unites industry leaders, policymakers, and experts, and aims to promote sustainable urban development and climate resilience in construction.

Summit Objectives

The summit addresses sustainability in the built environment, which focuses on meeting the 2030 global climate goals. The 2050 target for reducing emissions from buildings is also discussed. The event seeks solutions for climate-resilient development.

India’s Vision for 2047

The summit aligns with India’s goal of “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, which integrates economic growth, social progress, and environmental sustainability. Good governance is essential for achieving these objectives.

Key Speakers and

Dr. Vibha Dhawan, President of the GRIHA Council, emphasised collective action on climate change. Mr. Sanjay Seth brought into light the impact of design choices on the planet’s future. Abhay Bakre discussed the building sector’s role in sustainability. Martine Aamdal Bottheim noted Norway’s commitment to zero-carbon buildings.

A Memorandum of About was signed with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. This partnership aims to promote sustainability in schools. The objective is to create green campuses using GRIHA’s rating system.

Exhibition and Publications

The summit featured an exhibition named ‘Sanchay.’ It showcased advancements in sustainable materials and technologies. Two publications were launched – GRIHA V 6.0 and ‘Shashwat
Let Nature Be.’

The GRIHA awards recognised projects rated with 5 stars and 4 stars. The first day included discussions on policy advocacy, urban heat management, and biophilic architecture. Experts explored solutions for climate-resilient buildings.

GRIHA’s Background

GRIHA was established in 2007 by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and TERI. It evaluates the environmental performance of buildings. GRIHA has gained global recognition in climate action plans. TERI has been a leader in sustainability research for nearly fifty years.
