116 Nodal Officers appointed for PM Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan

On June 24, 2020, the Government of India appointed 116 senior bureaucrats to achieve the objectives of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan.

The scheme is a flagship programme of GoI. Through the programme, the GoI aims to help the migrant workers that are affected by COVID-19 lock down.

The 116 officers roped in as nodal officers are of the rank of joint secretary in the government ministries. They were picked from various All India Services such as IAS, IPS, IFoS, etc.

Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan

The scheme was launced to provide livelihood opportunities to the migrant workers and rural citizens. It will involve implementation of 25 different types of works that will provide employment to the migrant workers and eventually create infrastructure in the rural regions. This includes building anganwadi centres, railway works, national highway works, water conservation projects, etc.

The scheme is to work for 125 days with an outlay of Rs 50,000 crores. It is to mainly cover states where maximum migrant workers have returned. This includes UP, Bihar, MP, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Odisha. From these states 27 aspirational districts have been chose. These districts are estimated to cover two-third of migrant workers.
