106th Science Congress to be hosted by Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar
The 106th Indian Science Congress will be held at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar, Punjab from January 3 to 7, 2019. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The theme for the five-day science congress is ‘Future India: Science & Technology’. It will be organised by the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), a premier scientific organisation of India.
Key Facts
The science congress will comprise of 18 plenary sessions, including those of medical, environmental, chemical and other science domains.There will also be four parallel mega events, including women’s science conference, children’s science conference; science communicators meet and science exhibition. The exhibition will see participation from national and international science companies, especially from US, Australia, Germany and Switzerland. About 15,000 delegates, including 300 top scientists and Nobel Laureates from across world are going to attend the congress.
Background
ISCA was started in the year 1914 at its headquarters in Kolkata. It organises Indian Science Congress annually in first week of January. The first meeting of ISCC was held in January 1914 in Asiatic Society, Kolkata. ISCA works under Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology (Government of India). The 105th edition of ISC was held at Manipur Central University in Imphal, Manipur with theme “Reaching the Unreached Through Science & Technology”.
